What is USENET?
If you haven't experienced it, Usenet is hard to describe. The short answer is "Usenet is a world-wide distributed discussion system. It consists of a set of 'newsgroups' with names that are classified by subject." See www.faqs.org (offsite link) for more opinions about what Usenet is, or is not.

MEGABITZ exists because we believe once you have been on Usenet, you will want more of it.

What's different about MEGABITZ Usenet?
MEGABITZ is a new offering from a company that has years of experience providing Usenet access to Internet Service Providers. As a result, we are uniquely set up to provide quality service at a great price.

I don't have a credit card! How can I pay you?
We are pleased to accept your personal check or money order. Personal checks are held for seven days prior to posting. Our mailing address can be found here, on our contact page. You may also use PayPal, a popular online payment service.

What newsgroups do you carry?
New groups are added frequently. Check the complete list here.

Do you carry my favorite newsgroup? How far back do you have articles?

To find information on a specific group, enter the group name:

You will get an updated report that looks like this:

              group: rec.music.brazilian
              oldest article age: 60.6 days
              articles in group: 215

MEGABITZ takes pride in giving you up-to-date, honest statistics.

How do I request that you add a group?
Please e-mail your request to support@megabitz.net. MEGABITZ considers factors such as whether or not the group appears to be valid, contains traffic, and is appropriately named, and may decline to carry a group which does not appear to meet such criteria. MEGABITZ reserves the right to refuse to carry groups that appear to be intended to carry patently offensive material.

Why does the server refuse to allow me to post?
To protect Usenet from spammers, we do not allow posting during our free trial period. If you haven't requested posting privileges, your account will not have them enabled. Your member login will allow you to request the ability to post once your free trial ends. If you need help, or if you want to waive the free trial in exchange for immediate posting privileges, please e-mail support@megabitz.net or use our contact form.

I received a "441 Nonexistent newsgroup(s)" error.
You tried to post to a newsgroup which is not carried by MEGABITZ. Please correct the error and try again.

Do you limit posts?
We do not currently limit the volume a user posts to USENET. However, we do have a zero-tolerance policy toward spam and newsgroup flooding. As a subscriber you are responsible for reading and following our Acceptable Use Policy.

Can I log in from multiple computers at the same time?
Unlimited accounts are limited to a single IP at a time. Block accounts are allowed to log in from multiple computers.

How do I cancel my account?
Your business is important to us. If you have a problem, please give us a chance to make it right.

For fastest service, users should log in to the Member Login Area and select the option to cancel.

Do you count headers towards the download quota?
No, MEGABITZ does not count headers towards the download quota for block accounts, and obviously unlimited accounts have no quota.

How much more can I download on my block account?
The easiest way is to check the Control Panel in the Member Login Area. If your block account is not set to automatically refill, you may enable auto refill or contact support.

What is the server name?
The hostname for the news server is "news.megabitz.net". To use SSL encryption, please connect to "secure.megabitz.net".

What ports do you support?
If the default news port (119 for NNTP or 563 for NNTP-SSL) is not accessible because of a firewall or other restriction, we also serve content on ports 1024-3999, 20, 23, 80, 110, 120, and 443.
